It’s true that some tiles take more maintenance than others, especially when it comes to keeping them looking clean and removing stains. However, it does depend on the type of tiles you have and how long the stain has been sitting on the tiles. There are some great specialised products on the market for the care and maintenance of tiles to keep them looking their best.

Find out more about how to look after your tiles and how to remove stains.

Floor Surfaces

Glazed Tiles

Glazed porcelain and ceramic tiles have a hard surface so can easily be cleaned with daily sweeping or a clean, dry dust mop. A weekly wet mop is recommended using a PH neutral cleaner such as EZYCLEAN, which removes stains, scuff marks, grease and grime. Stains stay on the surface of glazed tiles but will usually lift off with warm water and a mild detergent.

Unglazed Tiles

Unglazed tiles such as terracotta and red stoneware are highly porous, and water absorbent so are usually sealed to protect against food spillages and staining. You can therefore sweep and mop unglazed sealed tiled floors as you would a fully glazed tile. EZYCLEAN is also suitable for cleaning unglazed tiles.

Marble and Stone Floors

Marble and stone floors are porous and very prone to staining and scratching, as well as being sensitive to acidic substances and some chemical cleaners. Clean up food and drink spills immediately, especially fruit juice, soft drinks and sauces. Wipe with warm water and mild detergent. Dry with a towel or mop to prevent water spots. If the tiles are in a high traffic area then lay a mat by external doorways to protect tiles from scratches and scuff marks.

Kitchen & Bathroom Walls

Wall tiles are usually fully glazed if installed in wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. To keep them looking great, a quick wipe with a soft cloth and EZYCLEAN will remove everyday soiling such as soap and shampoo scum in bathrooms, or food splatters in kitchens. You can also use this product on shower screens and glass.

How to Treat Common Stains

Food Spills

Scoop up the food spill off the tiles immediately with a non-abrasive tool that won’t scratch the surface and blot with a paper towel or clean, dry cloth. Spray the area with multi-surface tile cleaner such as EZYCLEAN and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.

Liquid Spills

Blot up the excess with a paper towel or clean, dry cloth. Then clean the area with EZYCLEAN and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.

Mud

For wet mud scrape off any excess with a non-abrasive tool and spray the surface with EZYCLEAN, wipe off excess with a clean cloth. Remove dry mud with a soft bristle brush or use a dull tool to lift off caked-on stains and then clean the area with EZYCLEAN and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
